Do Rite Records is an artist-centered independent label whose expanding roster includes both fresh and seasoned talent in a variety of genres: Gospel, Jazz, Blues, Country and Americana. DRR artists have graced the recordings of some of music history’s most celebrated artists: Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Wonder, Andrae Crouch, Les McCann, Joan Baez, Kris Kristofferson and Joe Cocker to name a few. The beginnings of Do Rite Records hearken back to the long career of award-wining producer and 7 time Grammy nominee Alan Abrahams (www.alanabrahams.com) who came to the United States on a track scholarship (sprints), and quickly dove headlong in the New York music scene of the late 60’s, producing and drumming for cult favorite blues group Pig Iron (Columbia Records) and touring with Canned Heat, The Allman Brothers, B.B. King, and many others. Within a few years he was hired by RCA as Executive Producer and new Head of A & R West Coast. During his tenure he worked with or signed artists such as Hall & Oates, Pure Prairie League, Juice Newton, and The Memphis Horns. DRR is co-founded by businessman/songwriter Tim Kimber. After being named Mr. Empire State in 1978, Tim seized an opportunity to move to California and purchased the now world famous, Gold’s Gym, which at that time was a single location (still the original) in Venice Beach. Over the next 20 years, he and his partners grew Gold’s to over 540 locations worldwide. Tim was an originator of the bodybuilding movement that swept through California in the late 70’s and 80’s. Throughout his tenure at Gold’s, Tim trained alongside such legendary figures as Lou Ferrigno, Carl Weathers, and Lyle Alzado. The greatest names in sports and entertainment all graced the floors of Gold’s Gym. During this period, Tim began pursuing a lifelong passion in songwriting, co-writing “Victims of Comfort” with Keb' Mo, which appeared on his self-titled Epic Records debut (which achieved gold staus), as well as numerous compilations. DRR is part of the new generation of indie labels that put the artists, their music and their fans as the top priority, whose mission is to make new great music available in a fresh immediate manner. |
