Táta Vega.
A voice so powerful. A spirit so strong. A legacy so rich.
…….An artist for all ages.
At long last, the brand new collection of Gospel songs written by some of the most legendary writers in Gospel Music, and played by the greatest musicians in any genre of music, has finally arrived. “The Anointing is here!” said bassist Abraham Laboriel, upon the commencement of the historic series of sessions for her debut album on Do Rite Records entitled “This Joy”. From the first recording session, every moment in the creation of this album has been dedicated and consecrated to the Lord. Táta's awesome gift is shining through, as a humble vessel filled with passion and her love for God.
Táta says it best in her own spontaneously spoken words during the recording of a brand new Andraé Crouch song entitled “Another Chance”:
“As I look back on my life… all of the times I turned my back on God, went my own way. Why, I think it’s a miracle that I'm standing here today, alive and well. Happy, free, because of a merciful and giving Saviour, whose loving hand stayed on me, even when I rejected Him. I'll be grateful for the rest of my life, that He gave his daughter, this ol’ girl, Another Chance."
Táta’s voice has been heard by millions through her incomparable singing for the movie The Color Purple. Quincy Jones and Steven Spielberg felt Táta Vega was the only voice they wanted to sing the now classic “Miss Celie’s Blues” and the climactic “Maybe God Is Tryin' To Tell You Somethin'”. Additionally, her voice has been heard in such films as A Time To Kill, Forrest Gump, Amistad and the theme song,"The Circle Of Life" in The Lion King (Latin American version). Táta has lent her voice to countless other projects for artists including Joe Cocker, Bebe and Cece Winans, and Patti LaBelle. Her tenure as a featured vocalist with Gospel legend and mentor Andraé Crouch produced one of the most requested songs by a single Gospel artist, the now classic “Oh, It Is Jesus”.
Working hand in hand with award-winning producer Alan Abrahams, Táta delivers heart-wrenching vocals on “This Joy”, not created by studio tricks, but by the spontaneous spirit of an artist souled-out for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! “It was a humbling experience for me knowing we had the best musicians in the studio to hear Táta worshipping the Lord with her amazing voice,” said Alan Abrahams. “When she sang ‘Flow’ (written by Aaron Lindsey, Grammy winner for his work with Israel Houghton), we were indeed 'moved by His power,’” asserts Abrahams, “To have Dr. Margaret Douroux be there with us to personally conduct and guide Táta through her composition 'Home Over The Mountain' was an honor. Pastor Andraé Crouch was also there encouraging and lending his support, songs, and brilliant talent.”
Táta says, "This music is the culmination of my journey; the ups and downs that we all have had to face and that have brought me to this very moment. I feel a sincere responsibility, and offer this music with gratitude and humility. For the places I have sung, for all the recordings I have made, my deepest hope is to ‘change a life in one moment and turn a heart with one word.’ I am a songstress and servant of The Most High God ...Honored to serve in the name of Jesus Christ."
“This Joy” will be available October 27, 2009 on Do Rite Records.
